Dr. Peter Amerman

Dr. Peter Amerman is Department Chair and Professor of Biblical Studies at Pillar College, Newark, NJ. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY. He has pastored churches in the southern and northern New Jersey area for 47 years, including 2 church plants. He teaches courses and runs a weightlifting program at the Market Street Mission (Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation) in Morristown, NJ, assisting men in their quest to be “strong in body, mind and spirit”. His passion is to go deeper with God through Jesus Christ, and to train and equip other men & women (especially leaders) in “whole-life” discipleship. He is the author of two books — a Bible study series entitled, “Mastering The Basics” & “The Integrated Leader” (a study on the Book of Nehemiah), and coauthored another book with his wife, Susan, a discipleship tool entitled “One Telling One”.
Purpose & Mission
“Sir, we wish to see Jesus…” — John 12:21 (NASB)
- To walk closer with Jesus Christ every day
- To bring all members of my family into a closer walk with Jesus
- To bring those in my church and school into a closer walk with Jesus, specifically:
- “Whole Life” Evangelism and discipleship for all who come in contact with the church and school
- To be an instrument of renewal within the church at large
Discipleship Method — Following the Pattern of Jesus with the Woman at the Well (John 4)
Just as Jesus encountered the woman at the well in Sychar, and gave her “Living Water”, that is what we hope to accomplish also as God’s people:
- Meet people outside of the building, meet people where they are — at the “wells” in our communities
- Cross over racial, social and religious barriers to meet with people
- Accept them as they are, but help them to become all that God intends them to be
- Speak to them about physical needs as well as spiritual needs
- Speak to them about eternal life
- Deal with their choices that led to broken relationships (Ministry of Reconciliation)
- Involve them in ministry right away (develop their testimony, share with others)
